I made these mooncakes using polymer clay a few years back, these are a lot bigger than the scales I usually work in! The last picture is the master sculpt that I made for the mooncake design.
So mid autumn festival came and went. This year, I hardly saw any kids playing with actual candles and paper lanterns. Instead, parents nowadays are opting for battery operated lanterns which can be kicked and stomped on (as I saw demonstrated by my nephew 😅) without worrying about the lantern bursting into flames. 🌕 I can understand the safety concerns, but I can't help feeling a tinge of pity for the fading customs. |
I remember the joy of dripping hot candle wax into the candle holder, while gingerly avoiding the brightly coloured paper. And feeling this warm burst of exhilaration as we gently unfolded the paper lantern into its curved shell and trooped around with glowing lanterns around the park. Back then, the only illumination came only from little drops of coloured lanterns and the occasional street lamp. Now, the road is also brightly lit, but with the flashing lights from our smartphones.
🏮What are your memories of Mid-Autumn Festival? 请与我分享你中秋节的回忆,是否也一样是提着灯笼赏月呢?
